Tokyo-based global freight company Kintetsu World Express announced that it has been awarded the contract for Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “SAF Promotion and Corporate’s Scope 3 Reduction Project” for second year in a row.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced a subsidy programme for air cargo transport using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) last year to help reduce aviation-related emissions of the corporates based in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.

Interest in the subsidy programme was invited through a call for applications for all freight companies.

KWE said that it won the subsidy, after it applied for the program with a specific plan description. “Our plan was adopted and we were selected as a designated forwarder to receive the subsidy again following last year,” said the company in a statement.

Under the program, the cost of the SAF environmental attributes, which is in addition to the normal freight transportation cost, will be subsidised on the premise that our customers, shipper companies, purchase and use the SAF environmental value for air cargo transportation to and from Haneda and Narita airports.

The subsidy is available to small and medium-sized companies up to 2,400,000 yen per company and 10/10 of the cost, and to large companies up to 4,000,000 yen per company and 1/2 of the cost.

Kintetsu said it will use the programme to collaborate with its partners and make further contributions to the expansion of SAF use in Japan.
