French energy supplier Verso Energy and airport operator Groupe ADP announced the signing of a strategic partnership to collaborate on the development of synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) in France.

Through the agreement, the two firms will structure and develop a complete value chain including production and production of e-SAF and developing industrial assets for Verso and Groupe’s airport network.

“We are delighted with this partnership with Groupe ADP, a key player in air transport in France, Europe and internationally. Together, we are creating the concrete conditions for broad access to e-SAF for airlines, particularly through Parisian airports and business aviation platforms,” said commented Antoine Huard, CEO, Verso Energy.

It is worth noting that Verso Energy is working on developing a eSAF production city in the Finnish city of Oulo with an initial investment outlay of $1.5bn.

Under the agreement, the two firms will also jointly explore business models and financing mechanisms to produce e-SAF in the required volumes, at a competitive cost and to secure its supply.

They will also share partnership opportunities with end buyers of this e-SAF, to promote its adoption in aviation operations, whether for commercial, business, or cargo flights.

“We are pleased that this partnership will accelerate the deployment of the eSAF sector, complementing the strategic investments already underway. Groupe ADP reaffirms its total commitment to supporting the ramp-up of SAF production,” said Justine Coutard, deputy CEO, GROUPE ADP.

Groupe ADP is also one of the investors in alcohol-to-jet technology company LanzaJet.
