SkyNRG’s Project SkyKraft receives roughly 21m EUR from Swedish Energy Agency
Project SkyKraft, a joint venture between Dutch sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project developer SkyNRG and Swedish power company Skellefteå Kraft, has been awarded 21m EUR as part of the Idustriklivet Initiative run by the Swedish Energy Agency.
The eSAF project will be located at Näsudden in the Port of Skellefteå and has an estimated annual nameplate capacity of 130,000 tonnes of eSAF.
The government grant aims to support the next steps in the feasibility process, including design and engineering. The companies are aiming for a 2027 Final Investment Decision (FID) date.
“This support is a strong signal that SkyKraft represents the kind of project Europe needs to scale SAF production,” says Maartin van Dijk, CEO and co-founder, SkyNRG. “eSAF is a complex and capital-intensive industry, but the long-term demand fundamentals are very strong. With SkyNRG’s experience in SAF markets and Skellefteå Kraft’s renewable energy expertise, SkyKraft combines industrial capability with the right market conditions to move from ambition to delivery.”
“The geopolitical situation and what is currently happening in the global fuel markets shows how important it is to get away from dependence on fossil imports. This investment provides synergies as we can both reduce emissions and at the same time build up domestic production of aviation fuel,” adds Caroline Asserup, director general, Swedish Energy Agency.
SkyKraft is the third project that SkyNRG is involved with, DSL-01 in The Netherlands, a HEFA facility which recently achieved FID in February 2026 (read the full story here), and project Wigeon, a renewable natural gas to SAF project in Washington State, United States.
“Funding from Industriklivet is a clear confirmation that the Swedish Energy Agency also recognizes SkyKraft as vital both for the aviation sector’s transition and for Sweden’s resilience. During the feasibility phase, we have received further confirmation that Näsudden offers world-class conditions for eSAF production,” says Joachim Nordin, CEO, Skellefteå Kraft.
The availability of infrastructure as well as feedstock requirements, such as electricity and carbon dioxide, as well as the project development expertise within SkyNRG and Skellefteå Kraft also contributed to the investment decision.
The Industriklivet initiative provides funding for feasibility studies, research, pilot and demonstration facilities as well as commercial-scale investments in the energy transition space.
