EFT subcontracted for seawater-to-SAF project

US-based Emerging Fuels Technology (EFT) has been awarded the subcontract to provide their technology platform for a pitot scale project in Hawaii to exhibit the conversion of CO2 extracted from seawater into sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF).
The $19.2m contract was issued by Sea Dragon Energy alongside Office of Naval Research.
“We believe this project will be a significant milestone in advancing eFuel solutions through CO2 capture for both military and commercial applications. Our technical expertise and pilot facilities complement Sea Dragon’s production processes, positioning us at the forefront of eFuel solutions worldwide. Projects like these represent an important advance in achieving American energy independence through Sustainable Fuels,” said Mark Agee vice president of business development at EFT.
EFT’s system will process synthesis gas derived from CO2 extracted from seawater.
The synthesis gas will be converted into synthetic jet fuel that meets the rigorous ASTM 7566 standards, ensuring compatibility with existing aviation infrastructure.
Equipment delivery for the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
It is worth highlighting that earlier in 2024, German cleantech company CAPHENIA signed an agreement with Emerging Fuels Technology to integrate their technologies for the production of SAF and renewable diesel.
