Oxford-based technology company OXCCU, which converts waste carbon into fuels and chemicals, have announced the appointment of Nacho Gimenez as chief operating officer.

“I am excited to be joining OXCCU at this key stage in its journey. The efficiency of its technology has potential to make low-carbon fuels more competitive, and I look forward to working with the team to help bring it to market,” said Gimenez in a statement.

Prior to his appointment at OXCCU, Gimenez led a Ukrainian startup and worked as managing director of BP Ventures leading investments in the energy sector especially decarbonisation technologies.

OXCCU said that Gimenez joins at a pivotal time for the company. OXCCU is building its second demonstration plant, OX2, and is in the process of accelerating scale-up following its £18m ($13.25m) Series A in 2023 and multiple government grants this year.

With further fundraising planned, Gimenez will lead OXCCU’s operations to ensure the team delivers its milestones and gets its one-step process for converting CO2 into long chain hydrocarbons to commercial scale.

Commenting on Gimenez appointment, OXCCU co-founder and CEO, Andrew Symes, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nacho to our leadership team. His experience in overseeing expansion and driving sustainable innovation will be vital as we expand, and open our second demonstration plant, OX2, at London Oxford Airport in 2026.”
